Fixing Fouling in Austin

Goal:
Design sustainable solutions to the issue of dog waste in Austin.

Every year, dog owners around Austin neglect the responsibility of picking up their dogs' waste. This unattended waste creates a biohazard for humans, putting them at risk of parasite and microbial infection.

The Austin Watershed Department tasked designers with finding sustainable solutions to this problem.

My solution tackled the issue around the West Campus Area. I conducted a survey of dog owners throughout the neighborhood as well as research on the surrounding environment. My proposal is to install a series of parklets around the neighborhood that would cater to dog owners. These parklets act as convenient drop-off locations for dog waste and offer a chance to meet and chat with other dog owners in the area, creating a sense of community.
