GoRun System

Goal: Create a measuring device that challenges what a measuring device can be and works towards the greater good.

In this project I set out to design a measuring system that would encourage the user to adopt positive habits. From the beginning I became interested in the improvement of physical health as I was working on similar goals at the time. With the introduction of wearable trackers, heart rate sensors, and tracking apps, running seemed to be a hot topic and a natural space for exploration.

I came up with an analog system that would be incorporated into the running shoe itself, an object of necessity when taking up running. The GoRun system uses a series of degradable layers in the sole of the shoe that wear down as the user runs over time. Changes in the color of the sole indicate both the total distance ran and wether the user is running with the correct posture. In this sense, the system simultaneously motivates and educates the user as he or she takes up the habit of running.
